Sunday, March 9, 2014 – 2:40 p.m. Victoria time (in a train to Wandin)
By Teressa Jackson
Friday, our team began the day by learning to paddle board.
Paddle boarding involves kneeling on and then learning to stand on a surfboard,
and using a paddle (oar) to guide yourself around. I was very proud of our
team, who did an excellent job and a limited number of spills into the bay. It
was a chilly morning, but the wetsuits provided warmth as well as some hearty
laughs. It was a lot of fun.
We then headed to the adjacent Coast Guard station, where a
local Rotarian volunteers. In fact, everyone in the Australian Coast Guard is a
volunteer. It was interesting to learn about their work and the technology they
use.
Having worked up an appetite paddle boarding, we were
thankful for the opportunity to dine in a wonderful restaurant along the bay
where we stuffed ourselves with delicious food. We worked a bit of it off around
a tourist market, and then boarded a train for Geelong, where we were to spend
the weekend on our own.
